Most good films will engage you with their characters and their drama. Aishwarya Dhanush has an admirable debut as director and her much hyped Moonru (3) has an outstanding first half, loses some of its steam in the second half, but ends up as an honourable film which is quite poignant.
3 is a moving drama that will undoubtedly leave you with a lump in your throat. Intuitively written by Aishwarya herself, it is emotional and sure to leave you teary-eyed. Much of the credit for that must go to the protagonist played by Dhanush who delivers a measured performance in a myriad role.
The film keeps you engaged on the strength of its plot, as it does for the interesting characters who inhabit it. The first half is poetic and takes you on a journey through the love story of Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruthi) who are 12th standard students. The romance has a slow build-up and an earthy charm.
The scenes between Ram and the delicate Janani, played by a Shruthi are a scream. Silences convey so much more than irreverent banter, and nowhere is this more evident than in the interactions between the lovely pair whose romance is told through their eyes and longing expressions.
For Dhanush, 3 is yet another milestone in acting. Investing in him a boyish charm, he exploits the role with full-blown impact. He effortlessly pulls off the restless, charming Ram and brings depth to his character. Aishwarya has brought the best out of Shruti in her school portions but she tends to overact, especially in the crying scenes towards the end.
Siva Karthikeyan as Kumaran and Sundar as Senthil, Ram’s friends never miss a beat. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by the supporting cast and watch how cleverly Aishwarya uses them. It’s a joy to watch veterans like Prabhu, Bhanupriya and Rohini.
An impressive achievement both in writing and direction, the film is full of fine nuances and sharp observations that stay with you. Comedy and romance are beautifully weaved into the story in a realistic manner.
Songs by Anirudh are a major plus for the film and they go with the flow of the story. The most anticipated Kolaveri number does not overshadow the narration and is picturised in a simple manner by Aishwarya, without any gimmicks. The Kannazhaga and Podi Po stays with you even after the film is over.
Velraj’s camera is good while Kola Bhaskar could have made the film crisp in the climax. On the whole, 3 has its heart in the right place, though the second half seem scattered. Overlook these faults, and make it a point to watch 3.
The movie…its all about Ram (Dhanush) and Janani(Shruti) moving through all the feelings from their teenage +2 days till the tragedy after their marriage…and that is the suspense of the movie. The intro scene itself will give you a shock ,which is the funeral of Dhanush….ooohh ..I am sorry…I am not supposed this to say this…Finally the Wait is over…..The KOLAVERI movie is here….. ’3′ hits the Screen, made by the ’3′ great artists who are the predecessors of ’3′ masters of Tamil Industry – Dhanush (son of Director KasthuriRaja who is also the producer of this movie),Shruti Hassan(Daughter of Kamalhassan), Aishwarya (Daughter of Rajnikanth as well as wife of Dhanush). Infact I didn’t find any other relation with this name and the movie…. – Dhanush 3 Tamil Movie Reviews
The entire story runs in the Flashback….which is the real beauty and life of the movie. I am sure that everybody will resemble themselves to the teenage Ram who is driving a Yamaha RX100 bike, waiting under the tree for a passing look from the girl, joining the Tuition class with the best friend only to be with her for some time, and avoiding the best friend to have a ride in his bike with Girl friend…etc..etc.. These are the things to be highlighted about the 1st half, which made the movie…i should say THE BEST… – Dhanush 3 Tamil Movie Review
The 2nd half completely turns the mood and take you to another genre, which is the masterpiece of National Award Winner Dhanush – A Psychological Thriller. I really doubt about this phase which can entertain all the type of Audience because of a big transition, which is providing a Hot and Cold treatment with romance and bipolar disorder.
Dhanush lived in the character Ram,which resembles him to his ‘Thulluvatho Ilamai’ looks and ‘Kathal Kondein’ attitude. Shruti Hassan proved her acting skills specially in her teenage girl phase. Aishwarya surprised with her direction ability in the debut movie which is really appreciable. The main personality to be mentioned in Anirudh, the music Director. The boy made the world to dance with his Kolaveri Steps, pushed this movie to the next level with amazing background Scores. The BGM is a spicy add on to all the best scenes in this movie. There is a special applause goes to the parental characters did by Prabhu,Bhanupriya and Rohini. Altogether this is something changed the conventional patterns of tamil movie.Really Fresh
