In Bollywood we were hearing plagiarism cases against movies released in the recent times, including the recent blockbuster hit Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger, where a writer had claimed that the story of the film is his.
Now similar case has been filed against the makers of Thaandavam. The film directed by AL Vijay stars Vikram, Anushka Shetty, Amy Jackson, Lakshmi Rai, Jagapati Babu in the leads.
An assistant director named Ponnuswamy, (who had earleir worked with Director Radha Mohan) had filed a complaint claiming that the script of the film is his and that the makers had made it in to Thaandavam without giving hi s due credit or money and the issue is said to be pending with the director’s union for the last few weeks and no settlement has been reached.
A source informs, “Assistant director Ponnuswamy, had narrated a script to the movie’s producer in August 2011. Though the makers promised to make a film out of that script, they later backed out of it. Now, it looks like the same script has been made into a film by Vijay. Ponnuswamy has complained to the Director’s Union a month back and the issue is still not resolved.”
It is said that he had been offered money, but Ponnuswamy wants credit. A spokesperson from the production house said, “Ponnuswamy did give us a script last year but we returned it saying we already have something similar involving a blind person and that his script was not up to the mark and we could make that film.”
Director Vijay told media, “The movie has been shown to Ponnuswamy and the Directors’ Union. The Directors Union just told me to continue my work. And we haven’t made any offer of money to him either.”
As of now, the issue is said to be in the Directors’ Union’s court.
