Amaravathi is a landmark film for Ajith, as it marked his debut in Kollywood. Directed by Selvaa, the film had Sanghavi playing the female lead in it. The film was also the starting point of a long journey for Ajith in the Tamil film industry. And industry veterans tell us that it was ace singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, who made this journey possible.
The source says, “Selvaa had met up with SPB, and was narrating the story of his new film. He was keen on casting new faces for the same, and had even auditioned quite a few of them. But he was not satisfied with the result. He had requested SPB to help him identify an artist. That’s when the singer recommended Ajith’s name. He had told him about Ajith and his performance in the Telugu film, Prema Pusthagam. Selvaa then got in touch with the crew of the Telugu film, only to find that the guy in question was residing in Mandaveli in Chennai! Selvaa immediately signed him on for the role.”
Though the two haven’t team up later for any films, we hear the two artists share a great vibe and are still in touch with each other. Interestingly, Ajith holds SPB in high esteem, and SPB sings at least one song in his film, the last being in Aasal.
