Mye Tamil Movie Online – Review

Story: Spurred by his lover played by Swetha, Subbu (Vishnu), an unambitious political underling and a petty thief, decides to contest the local body elections as an independent and even manages to win. Now, he is wooed by both the major political parties as they have garnered an equal number of seats, and Subbu’s vote will decide the mayor. Whom will he choose?

Movie Reviews: In a state where films and politics go hand in hand, there is no dearth of films with plots woven around politics. Some do it with grandeur (“Mudhalvan”), some use it to saritrise the political climate (“Maha Nagdigan”) and some tackle the subject with the required seriousness (“Thaneer Thaneer” and “En Uyir Thozhan”). But whichever route a filmmaker chooses to take, it is essential that the film has enough fizz to hold the interest of the viewers and make an impact on them.

This is exactly where ” Mye” fails. Gopalan’s script clearly lacks focus and strays everywhere – one moment it feels like a satire, the next it becomes too serious and at times even amateurish. Throughout the first half, we are presented with scenes that seem to set us up for a spoof. But things suddenly start getting serious, and there is hardly a challenge for the hero in achieving his goal. The film also drags on needlessly (and agonizingly) even after its antagonist is defeated by the hero, making you wonder what the director was thinking when he conceived these segments.

Films of this nature depend on strong performances to create an impact (can you imagine “Amaidhi Padai” without Sathyaraj?) but on this front too “Mye” fails to deliver. While Vishnu Priyan, who bears a passing resemblance to Vimal, is able to carry off the lighter portions, he is unable to pass off as a serious politician. As for Swetha Basu, she is just a pretty face. If there is ever a Kollywood Razzie, she will be a shoo-in for the most horrendous lip sync. Considering that it is her character that is the catalyst for the hero’s transformation, it is quite unforgivable.

Tip-off: If there is ever a poll for the best political film, “Mye” is sure to lose its deposit.
