Actor Srikkanth committed himself to playing the lead role in a film titled Sathurangam many years ago (almost six years back). The film, which was launched in the year 2005, was completed in 2006 but has been lying in cold storage ever since. The film was looked forward to with lots of hope because of director Karu Pazhaniyappan who has made films like Parthiban Kanavu and Pirovom Sandhippom.
For some reasons, though, the film wasn’t released in theatres at all. Now that Srikanth is back in the reckoning by playing an important role in the upcoming film Nanban directed by Shankar and starring Vijay, Jiiva, Ileana and Sathyaraj, efforts are being made to release Sathurangam now. The makers of the film are apparently trying to cash in on Srikanth’s popularity at the moment.
Srikanth, who plays a journalist in the film, has this to say about Sathurangam: “The film has some wonderful melodious numbers by music director Vidyasagar and had been completed more than five years back. I was always looking forward to this film’s release as I’m sure it would do well in theatres, thanks to an excellent script.
“Pazhaniyappan has brought to the fore the travails and struggles of a journalist who sets out to say nothing but the truth. The film would very much be a contemporary one and would fare well in theatres,†says Srikanth hopefully and added that he was eagerly looking forward to its release.
Incidentally, actress Sonia Aggarwal has played Srikanth’s love interest in the film (the film was completed before her failed marriage to director Selvaraghavan). Now as Sonia is also in the comeback mode, the film’s success might as well be a blessing in disguise for her!
