If one movie which dares to meet the fans and the competitors for this Deepavali, then it is Velayutham of Ilayathalapathy Vijay. The movie comes with lot of expectations and anticipations that Vijay is badly in need of a big break after a series of flops in the last two years. His last movie Kaavalan is an exception however it is also not a mega hit as per Ilayathalapathy’s collection standards. In a way, he and Ajith were on the same boat that Ajith surfaced a bad phase after two consecutive flops- Aegan and Asal.
However in Vijay’s case the number was higher and he came under heavy criticism from the industry observers. He had to reckon the protest from the distributors who demanded compensation of amount for the flop movies. moreover, he had to resist the unexpected political threats for his Kaavalan movie. Now this Deepavai promises a lot for Ilayathalapathy as his most excited movie Velayutham is getting screened.
Velayutham comes under the banner of Aascar movies from Ravichandran. Jeyam Raja, sibling of Jeyam Ravi has taken the mettle of direction and storyline. The cast includes Genelia, after a thumping pairing with Vijay in Sachien; Hansika Motwani is taking care of a rustic character; Santhanam is there for humor; Saranya Mohan as Vel’s sister, Sathyan, M. S. Bhaskar, Pandiarajan, Vincent Asokan, Manivannan, Ilavarasu, Sayaji Shinde. Vijay Anthony is on the back to back score for Vijay after Vettaikkaran. The songs, was released in a mega event in Madurai, is already a hit. Director Raja on his part, believes that the script is 100% commercial entertainer for Vijay and the entire film has come off well.
What Could be the Story line ?
Story seems to centre around Vijay’s deal to right the wrong in his usual manner but with shift of action from rural to urban atmosphere. Some sources close to the unit said that as per the story, Vijay dons the role of a poor milkman in his village. He is cherished with the surrounding sister who is Saranya Mohan. Vijay is ably assisted by his cousin Santhanam and amidst these peaceful life the flirts from Hansika Motwani embarks him in a delicate situation. Vijay deposits money regularly in a city based Chit fund for his Sister’s marriage. When he sensed some mismanagement of money on the Chit fund side, he migrates to the city cult for the sake of recovering his worthy deals. On the other side, Genelia who is playing the role of journalist, creates & gloryfies a fictitious character (like a Super man) to indirectly fight against the powerful gangs in the city. Circumstances make the people in the city, to start to believe that Vijay is that Superman, What Vijay redeems and how he withstands the villainy constitutes & the chit fund group forms the rest of the story.
Sources behind the story
Azad (Telugu – 2000) in which the role done by Nagarjuna in association with the late Soundarya. However, Raja admitted that he derived the substance from this story but shaped the script to suit the current tempo. The story also closely resembles Vikram’s Kanthasamy. Interestingly, exactly a decade ago, Vijay teamed up with the then director Thiruppathisamy for a movie titled “Velan”, which was dropped to due to the sudden demise of Thiruppathisamy, who was the director of Azad.
Velayutham’s Vijay character will slightly remind us of Rajni’s Annamalai but with a change of villainy here (Rajni has to encounter his own friend Sarath Babu). Vijay was totally committed to this movie after undergoing the script narration. He was even ready to sacrifice his opportunity to work with Shankar for his Nanban. When Shankar asked for a getup change, Vijay refused to do so as it will affect the continuity in Velayutham . Director Raja has captured the panorama of various locales in Chennai, Srinagar, Jammu, Orissa and Hyderabad for songs and fight sequences. Vijay Anthony has done his best to satisfy the fans with his beat numbers and the songs have already set the (e)motions. Velayutham is ready for resounding release on Deepavali day but is facing the theatre constraint due to the advance booking of theatres for Surya’s 7am Arivu.
Vijay’s Charater name in Vel @ Velayutham. All his previous films in which he played roles with the name “Vel” (Gilli, Madura) was a mega hit. So Sentimentally Vijay fans hopes Velayutham will bring the fortunes for their Thalaivar.
More than 15 Villains & 30 Comedians have acted in Velayutham, which if true, will be a record in Tamil Cinema
Velayutham Audio already sets a new record sales for Vijay.
In the UK, Velayutham has got bookings for more than 25 screens which is on par with Rajni’s Enthiran.
With U certificate from the censor board, the movie goes to the theatres on Deepavali day as more than 850 prints having been made, the highest in Vijay’s career.
In Chennai alone nearly 50 screens are expected to screen the movie.
The neighboring states Kerala with 125 theatres and Karnataka with 100 theatres are ready to receive the evergreen hero in a new muscle and style.
